Cargo Worthy containers
When the container just needs to do its job
Do you need dry, lockable storage, but don’t care about a nice exterior? Cargo Worthy is the most economical quality category in CHS Containers’ standard product line.
The container is used, and dents, scratches, repairs, and surface rust are to be expected. In return, you get an affordable container that is wind- and watertight and structurally sound for transport. We’ve ensured that the container is CSC-certified and approved for international sea freight.
Cargo Worthy is often the right choice on a construction site, behind a warehouse, or in other locations where functionality is the top priority.

It's not pretty, but it gets the job done
Wear and tear is part of the price
A “Cargo Worthy” container may show clear signs of wear from a lifetime of transport. This isn’t a cosmetic category, but a choice for applications where durability and functionality are paramount. It typically has 5–8 good years left, as opposed to a new one, which can last 20+ years. On the other hand, Cargo Worthy containers are very affordable.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does “Cargo Worthy” mean?
“Cargo Worthy” means that a used container is wind- and watertight and has been assessed as structurally sound for transport. It is not a description of its cosmetic condition. See our quality categories here.
How worn is a “Cargo Worthy” container?
Dents, scratches, previous repairs, faded paint, and surface rust are to be expected. The extent of these varies from container to container. Therefore, the color and appearance cannot be assessed based on a model image.
Does a “Cargo Worthy” container have a valid CSC certification?
Yes, “Cargo Worthy” status and a current CSC certification are related, but the remaining validity must be checked for the specific container. Always provide information about planned freight charges before placing an order.
Cargo Worthy containers are inexpensive and good quality, but not very attractive.
Form Follows Function
“Cargo Worthy” is a term used to describe used shipping containers that typically have 5–8 years of service life remaining and therefore continue to meet functional requirements for transport at the time of assessment. At CHS Container, this category consists of containers that are wind- and watertight and approved for ocean freight. You don’t pay extra for a nice exterior, which is why this is often the most affordable way to get a closed storage unit.
This does not mean the container is free of signs of previous use. Dents, scratches, rust, color variations, and repairs are normal. If the location is visible from a residence, customers, or a public road, a “Premium” or “New” container may be a better choice.
What can it be used for?
Cargo Worthy containers are often used for tools, building materials, tires, machinery, spare parts, seasonal goods, and household goods. They are particularly well-suited for construction sites, industrial sites, and warehouse areas, where the container’s function is more important than its appearance.
Sizes and High Cube
You can choose between 20-foot and 40-foot containers. A 20-foot container is approximately 6.06 meters long, while a 40-foot container is approximately 12.19 meters long. High Cube provides approximately 30 cm of extra height and thus more volume without requiring a larger footprint.
Ocean freight requires specific oversight
The “Cargo Worthy” designation should not stand alone as documentation for a specific voyage. The CSC plate, inspection date, and any requirements from the shipping line must be appropriate for the shipment. CHS Container can verify the specific container once the intended use is provided.
The container is typically delivered from one of four Danish depots within 2–4 business days. The ground conditions, crane access, and desired placement should be agreed upon in advance. If you’d rather transport it yourself, the container can usually be picked up the next business day.
