20-foot used flat rack container

The 20-foot flat rack container is used for cargo that does not fit in a standard container. Its open design makes it suitable for large, heavy, or bulky items that need to be loaded from the side or from above. Most flat racks have ends that can be folded down so that they lie flat like a transport platform. A flat rack has several lashing points that can be used to secure the cargo for safe transport.

Typical Applications

This container is often used for:

  • machinery and production equipment
  • steel and building materials
  • large pipes and structures
  • vehicles and construction equipment
  • heavy cargo
  • Project cargo and special transport
  • items that are too tall or too wide

That’s why many people choose a flat rack container

A flat rack container allows for the transport and storage of cargo that cannot fit in a standard container.

It is often chosen when:

  • The load is too wide or too tall
  • The cargo must be loaded using a crane
  • where heavy or irregularly shaped cargo is handled
  • There is a need for flexible lashing options

The container’s robust construction makes it well-suited for demanding tasks in industry, construction, and transportation.

Practical Information

It is important to keep the following in mind:

  • weight and dimensions of the load
  • Reading Conditions
  • use of a crane or forklift
  • proper securing of the cargo

When transporting special cargo, there may be specific requirements regarding securing the cargo and obtaining permits.

If you’re unsure whether a flat rack container is right for the job, we’d be happy to advise you on cargo and options.

Delivery

To ensure a smooth delivery, there are a few things you should check before, during, and after receiving the container. This will help you avoid problems with placement, access, and quality.

Before Delivery

Make sure the surface is stable

The container must be placed on a level and stable surface. Examples include:

  • tiles under the corners
  • steel plates
  • concrete
  • other solid surface

If you have any questions about shims or underlays, we’d be happy to provide guidance.

Ensure access for delivery

You must make sure that the truck can get through and unload the container.

Please pay special attention to:

  • fence
  • shrubs and trees
  • cars
  • trailers
  • narrow passages
  • soft surface

If there are any circumstances that might make delivery difficult, please let us know before delivery.

Standard Delivery

Standard delivery is made by a crane truck and includes:

  • reading up to 4 meters from the curb
  • up to 15 minutes of reading time
  • We will call either when the container has been loaded or about 1 hour before delivery

If the container needs to be lifted more than 4 meters, or if delivery is expected to take longer than usual, this must be specified before the order is confirmed. Otherwise, additional costs may apply, such as for extra time or a wasted trip.

Placement on a public road

If the container is to be placed on a public road, sidewalk, or similar area, it is your responsibility to obtain a permit from the municipality before delivery.

Upon delivery

Check the container before unloading

We recommend that you or someone you trust be present when the container is delivered to inspect the delivery.

Before the container is lifted by the crane truck, you should check that the quality matches what you ordered.

Walk around the container and check for:

  • larger dents
  • visible holes
  • more serious injuries
  • conditions that do not meet the agreed-upon quality standards

Check that the doors are working

Once the container is in place, check to make sure the doors open and close completely.

If the container is not level, the doors may jam. This is especially true for 40-foot containers.

Make sure the container is sealed

Go inside the container and close the doors.

If no light comes in through cracks or holes, the container is airtight.

Please contact us immediately if you encounter any problems

If you believe the container has any defects or is missing any parts, please contact CHS Container immediately, before the crane truck leaves the address.

After delivery

Changes to the container

The container must not be painted, modified, or altered until it has been paid for in full.

When renting a container, you may not modify it without our prior consent.

If the container is modified without authorization, you may be charged for the cost of restoring it to its original condition.

When returning a rental container

When a rental container is returned, it must be:

  • emptied
  • cleaned on the inside
  • in generally good condition

If you have rented a lock from us, all keys and key cards must be returned along with the lock.

CARGO-WORTHY CONTAINER

A “Cargo Worthy” container is a used container that still meets the requirements for safe transport and structural integrity. This category is ideal for those who want an affordable container that prioritizes functionality over cosmetic condition.

Cargo Worthy containers are often used for:

  • Affordable storage
  • Temporary solutions
  • Construction Sites
  • Inventory and Materials
  • Maritime Freight and Export

A Cargo Worthy container typically has:

  • Obvious signs of wear and dents
  • Surface rust and previous repairs
  • Wear and tear after many years of use
  • Color variations and marks from shipping
  • Shorter cosmetic lifespan than newer categories

The container is still functional, watertight, and structurally sound for transport and storage.

This means you get a cost-effective solution without compromising on basic functionality.
